Roma have officially sent Gonzalo Villar to La Liga side Getafe on a six-month loan deal.

The 24-year-old Spanish midfielder failed to impress Jose Mourinho last season and was sent to Getafe on a six-month deal. After returning in the summer, Roma sent the player to Sampdoria on loan, where he struggled to show his best across eight starts.

As announced by Roma, Villar’s loan spell with Sampdoria has been cut short and he’s headed off to Spain to join Getafe on a six-month deal with a conditional obligation to buy clause attached.

Contracted to the Giallorossi until 2024, Villar joined the club from Elche in January 2020 in a deal worth around €5m. Since his arrival, he’s made 64 appearances across all competitions, providing one assist in that time.

Villar will be hoping to rediscover his form with Getafe in the second half of the season to earn a permanent move in the summer.
