Cagliari confirm their midfielder Marko Rog has suffered a second anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The 26-year-old had sustained the first knee injury in December 2020 and was forced out of action during the second part of the 2020-21 campaign.

He made his return on Saturday as a substitute during the friendly against Augsburg, sustaining a new injury.

“Subject to an injury during yesterday’s match against Augsburg FC, Marko Rog has today underwent a specialist medical examination at “Korian” clinic, Quartu Sant’Elena,” Cagliari’s official statement read.

“The tests revealed a complete rupture of the new anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee. The new ligament had been implanted in December 2020 by Professor Christian Fink, who steadily operates at “Hochrum” Clinic, Innsbruck. Professor Fink already worked with one Cagliari Calcio player in the past, having performed two cruciate ligament surgeries on the same knee of Leonardo Pavoletti.

“Marko Rog will now face a new recovery process. The necessary steps will be defined after further medical assessments and evaluations.”
