Milan and Roma transfer target Francisco Alarcon Isco is available as a free agent after Real Madrid announced his contract will not be extended.

The creative midfielder turned 30 in April and had been at the Estadio Bernabeu since 2013.

Originally a product of the Valencia youth academy, he also represented Malaga before making his mark at Real Madrid, but fitness issues saw him fall down the pecking order.

Isco made only 17 competitive appearances this season, contributing two goals for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

He also has 12 goals and six assists in 38 senior caps for Spain.

“Real Madrid would like to express its sincere gratitude and affection to Francisco Alarcón (‘Isco’), who during these nine years he has spent wearing our shirt and defending our crest has become a legend of our club,” read the statement.

“He joined Real Madrid when he was just 21 years old and during this spell at the club he has been part of an era that will remain in the memory of all madridistas and football fans. Isco has lifted 19 trophies in a glittering career with our team: five European Cups, four Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, three LaLiga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups. He was also named Best Player of the 2017 European Super Cup Final.

“His football made a lasting impression on all the madridistas who have accompanied him on this successful journey with so many unforgettable moments.

“Real Madrid is and always will be his home, and the club wishes him and all his family the best of luck for the future.”

Isco has already been linked with a move to Milan in the past, where he would effectively replace Brahim Diaz, the player on a two-season loan deal from Real Madrid with option to buy.

Roma are also an option for the Spain international, who already worked with Jose Mourinho in Madrid.

The Merengues also announced today that Gareth Bale will not renew his contract and is a free agent on the transfer market, with the Wales international expected to make a return to the Premier League.

  1. A very good option with literally every trophy and experience to play behind the striker or on the wings at Milan
