Fiorentina have officially announced that Cesare Prandelli has resigned as the Viola coach for ‘reasons going beyond football’.

The Viola coach had returned to the Artemio Franchi in November last year, but the 63-year-old has decided to step down only six months later.

“ACF Fiorentina can confirm that Cesare Prandelli has resigned as Fiorentina coach,” the club wrote in a statement.

“Prandelli offered his resignation on Tuesday and – with great sadness – the club has accepted his decision, acknowledging that the reasons behind this go beyond football.

“Over the past few months, Prandelli has given everything as coach, showing once again the deep bond that links him to Fiorentina and the city of Florence.

“President Rocco Commisso, the senior management, the squad and all the Fiorentina fans would like to thank Prandelli and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours, both personally and professionally.”

Sky Sport Italia writes the coach admitted his coaching career ‘can end here’, as he has ‘no regrets’.

“I’m aware that my coaching career can end here, but I have no regrets and I don’t want to have any,” Prandelli said.

“Probably, this world that I have been a part of all my life is no longer for me and I don’t recognise myself in it anymore.

“I have changed, for sure, and the world goes faster than I thought. This is why I believe tat the moment has arrived to stop being carried away by this spend and to stop to find who I really am.”
