Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini has officially extended his contract with the club to June 2026.

His current deal had been due to expire at the end of this season, so it was a matter of urgency, with several Premier League clubs sniffing around the midfielder.

However, negotiations and the presence of Jose Mourinho proved effective and he agreed a new and improved contract.

It was signed this afternoon, with Pellegrini’s father and agents present.

It’s believed to be worth circa €4m plus bonuses, making him the team’s second highest-paid player after Tammy Abraham.

There was a release clause in his current contract set at €30m, which obviously has been removed.

The 25-year-old was born and bred in Rome, coming up through the Giallorossi youth academy.

He had a spell at Sassuolo from 2015 to 2017, before returning to the Stadio Olimpico for €10m.

Pellegrini has made 161 competitive appearances in the Roma jersey, contributing 27 goals and 36 assists.
