Milan have officially signed Pietro Pellegri from AS Monaco, on loan with option to buy at the end of the season, which can become an obligation.

The striker is still only 20 years old, but moved to Monaco from Genoa for €20.9m plus bonuses in January 2018.

Monaco released a statement this afternoon confirming the transfer, on loan with an option to buy.

Milan’s statement adds that this option can become an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met.

The player will wear shirt number 64 this season.

It is reported the deal is worth €1m for the loan and option to buy for a further €6m plus performance-related bonuses.

He shot to fame at Genoa after becoming the first player born in the 21st Century to score a goal in the top five European leagues, during Roma 3-2 Genoa in May 2017.

He also became the youngest ever player to score a Serie A brace, aged 16 years and 184 days.

Injuries stalled his career progress at Monaco, making just 23 appearances for the French club, with two goals and one assist.

3 thought on “Official: Pellegri joins Milan from Monaco”
  1. Young talent with a season to learn from Ibra and Giroud. This could be an absolute steal if it works out.

  2. It is a worry that Monaco are almost seemingly looking to cut their losses, if the figures quoted are accurate.

  3. Relatively low risk, high reward. He is still a kid and has dealt with injuries primarily.

Monaco have already restocked their attack with Ben Yedder, Volland and Boadu as CFs and with a plethora of wingers. Pellegri will not get much playing time, so cashing in now. To be fair even when he was sold the fee was high for such a young player with limited track record. They gambled and got burned.

At that price Milan’s gamble is minimal with massive upside. Great deal for Milan.
