Olympique Marseille have officially confirmed the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as their new head coach.

The French side started the new season with Spanish coach Marcelino at the helm, but the 58-year-old left after just seven games before deciding to leave following serious threats from unhappy supporters.

Marseille currently sit eighth in the Ligue 1 table after six matches, managing just nine points from two wins and three draws. The club failed to qualify for the Champions League after losing to Panathinaikos in the third qualifying round last month.

As confirmed today, Gattuso has now taken over as the new Olympique Marseille coach, tasked with guiding the club back up the Ligue 1 table.

The 45-year-old Italian was most recently in charge of Valencia, where he spent five months from July 2022 to January 2023. Before that, he spent 18 months with Napoli and almost two years with Milan, winning a Coppa Italia title with the former.
