Olympique Lyon have officially named Fabio Grosso as their new head coach following the dismissal of Laurent Blanc.

A rising star, the 2006 World Cup winner shined last season in Serie B with Frosinone, securing a first-place finish to guide them back up to the Italian topflight. He left his post at the end of the campaign, a sign of his ambitions in the dugout.

Lyon have started the season in disastrous fashion, picking up just one point from their first four outings. The team drew Nice and lost to Montpellier, Paris Saint-Germain and Strasbourg.

As announced today, Grosso has now officially been appointed as Lyon’s head coach, signing a contract understood to last until June 2025.

During his playing career, the 2006 World Cup winner spent two years with the Ligue 1 side, making 78 appearances across all competitions.

Grosso’s first match in charge of Lyon will take place on September 23, when the team travel to Brest.
