Maurizio Sarri will not be the next Zenit St Petersburg boss after former midfielder Sergey Semak was named Roberto Mancini’s successor.
Semak’s appointment was confirmed in a statement on Zenit’s official website, seemingly leaving Chelsea as Sarri’s only realistic destination.
The 42-year-old ended his playing career with the Russian side and assisted Luciano Spalletti during his tenure, while also coaching the team for three games in 2014 as a caretaker.
