Salernitana have officially confirmed that Davide Nicola signed a new two-year contract at the club, maintaining his staff, despite Walter Sabatini’s departure.
There were fears the tactician would walk away after director of sport Sabatini announced he would not be at the club next season.
However, today’s summit with President Danilo Iervolino was positive and Nicola stuck with the two-year contract he had already agreed.
A statement from Salernitana confirms the contract also covers his staff, Manuele Cacicia, Simone Barone, Federico Barni and Gabriele Stoppino.
Nicola took over from Stefano Colantuono on February 15 with Salernitana sitting rock bottom of the Serie A table.
He put together 18 points in 15 games to climb up the standings and secure miraculous safety in the top flight.
The 49-year-old is not new to such achievements, having also rescued Crotone in 2017 and Genoa in 2020 from similarly dire situations.
Because of his reputation as a saviour of troubled clubs, this will be the first time Nicola has gone into pre-season training since Crotone in 2017.
