The FIGC has issued a new charge against Chievo, President Luca Campedelli and several directors for alleged false accounting.

The Flying Donkeys had been charged with exchanging players with Cesena at many times their actual value, in order to show false profits on their balance sheets.

The FIGC has issued a new charge against Chievo, President Luca Campedelli and several directors for alleged false accounting.

The Flying Donkeys had been charged with exchanging players with Cesena at many times their actual value, in order to show false profits on their balance sheets.

Their Serie A status was at risk, as the prosecutor asked for a 15 point deduction for last season.

However, a technicality meant that the case had to be dropped and re-submitted, and the Flying Donkeys have once again been charged.

The FIGC document charges club President Luca Campedelli with “violation of the obligation to comply with federal regulations” in the transfer of 30 players, as in all cases there was “a payment higher than the real value”.

It’s also alleged that Chievo broke article 19 of the FIGC’s regulations with their accounts for 30 June 2014, 30 June 2015, 30 June 2016, 30 June 2017, 31 December 2014, 31 December 2015, 31 December 2016 and 31 December 2017.

The document accuses the Flying Donkeys of creating “fictitious profits for a total of €25,380,000” and placing “intangible assets” on the books worth €23,850,000.

This was allegedly done to “make a net asset appear higher than what actually existed at end of each year and each semester”, in order to allow the club to register for Serie A in 2015-2016, 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, where Chievo would otherwise have failed the registration tests.

Piero Campedelli and Antonio Cordioli, advisors to the club, are charged with failing to oversee the preparation of the accounts properly and for “for not having expressed disagreement with regard to accounting for the financial statements” in question.

Giuseppe Campedelli has been charged for “approving the accounting in the financial statements”, as has Michele Cordioli.

Chievo are charged as a club for the “direct and objective responsibility for the conduct ascribed” to their President, advisors and directors.

Cesena were previously found guilty and deducted 15 points for whichever division they register for, as they went bankrupt over the summer.

Chievo are due to kick the Serie A season off, as they face Juventus at home in the first match.
