Napoli have officially announced the signing of Scotland international Scott McTominay on a permanent transfer from Premier League giants Manchester United.

Official: McTominay joins Napoli from Manchester United

Recent reports confirmed that the two clubs shook hands over a €30.5m fee for the United academy graduate. Napoli have also agreed to a 10% sell-on clause.

He has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, running until the summer of 2028, which will earn him a reported €3m per season in wages.

McTominay was into the final year of his contract with Manchester United, which would have expired on June 30, 2025.

“McTominay will be missed by everyone at the club and leaves with our best wishes as he embarks on a new chapter of his career in Italy,” Manchester United wrote in a club statement.

“Good luck, Scott, arrivederci and thank you for the fabulous memories.”

He becomes Antonio Conte’s sixth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Romelu Lukaku, David Neres, Alessandro Buongiorno, Rafa Marin and Leonardo Spinazzola.

His international colleague Billy Gilmour is also expected to complete his move to the Partenopei from Brighton before the close of the transfer window this evening.

McTominay scored 29 goals from 255 appearances in all competitions during his time in Manchester United’s senior side, including 178 outings in the Premier League. Napoli will be the first club he has represented outside his hometown.

  1. Bloated fee for a player on the last year of his contract. But Conte loves his workhorses. Napoli may have more Scottish players playing this season than Italians.
