It is now official that Napoli have missed out on Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi, who joins Olympique Marseille from Angers SCO.

The Ligue 1 club made the announcement this afternoon, confirming that a verbal agreement had been reached with Marseille for the transfer.

According to various reports including RMC Sport and Foot Mercato, a deal was reached yesterday for โ‚ฌ10m.

That is roughly half what Napoli were offering, and even less than Leeds United on โ‚ฌ25m, but the difference is that Marseille promised to give Angers a large percentage of the sell-on fee.

Ounahi made his name at the 2022 World Cup, helping Morocco to reach the semi-finals and eventually secure fourth place in Qatar.

The 22-year-old made 15 Ligue 1 appearances this season for Angers, who are struggling against relegation from the French top flight.

Amongst the other clubs who were also interested in Ounahi, there were Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain.

Marseille offered the most lucrative option on paper for Angers, while also ensuring regularly playing time for him.
