Napoli have officially announced the signing of Romelu Lukaku on a permanent deal from Premier League outfit Chelsea after a long summer of negotiations between the two clubs.

Official: Napoli sign Lukaku from Chelsea

The Partenopei agreed to pay Chelsea a fee of around €30m plus a 30% sell-on fee in order to secure the Belgian’s services.

Belgium’s all-time leading goalscorer has put pen to paper on an initial three-year contract, which will run until the summer of 2027 and is set to earn him an annual salary of around €8m per season after taxes, according to Calciomercato.com

As is customary with Napoli transfers, club President Aurelio De Laurentiis was the first to announce the news.

This is the fourth time that Lukaku has come to play in Serie A. Napoli will be the third Italian club that he has played for, following his two stints with Inter and his loan spell with Roma in 2023-24.

There will also be a reunion with Antonio Conte. Lukaku has scored more goals under the Italian than for any other coach in his career with a record of 47 goals in 72 appearances.

Big Rom has hit double figures for league goals in 11 out of the last 12 seasons he has played. He also boasts an impressive record of 70 goals from 129 outings in Serie A.

His most productive campaign in front of goal came while he was still at Inter, under Conte in 2020-21. He netted 24 goals that season, but missed out on being crowned Capocannoniere due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of 29 that season.

Lukaku has been signed in time to be included for Napoli’s upcoming Serie A match against Parma this weekend, but it remains to be seen what involvement he will have.
