Pablo Mari has officially made the permanent move from Arsenal to Serie A side Monza for a reported €6m after a loan spell that including a knife attack in a supermarket.

The defender turns 30 in August and this was his second Serie A experience after playing for Udinese on loan from January to June 2022.

He returned last summer for Monza and made 30 Serie A appearances, scoring one goal, as well as one Coppa Italia match.

However, during the loan spell, Pablo Mari just happened to be one of several people randomly stabbed in a supermarket attack in October 2022 near Milan by a local who was suffering from psychiatric problems.

The knife struck him in the back and required surgery, but was fortunately unable to hit any vital organs or arteries.

Originally expected to be out for several months, he returned to the stadium the next week to salute fans and then was back on the pitch by December.
