Roma announce Henrikh Mkhitaryan will stay at the club under new coach Jose Mourinho and extends his contract to June 2022.

“In these two years, Roma won me over, as a squad and a city, thanks to the incredible passion of the fans,” he told the Roma website.

“The club is very ambitious and I am truly proud to give my contribution to face the challenges that await us next season. Daje Roma!”

The 32-year-old midfielder had taken a few days to make a decision, having clashed with Mourinho during their time together at Manchester United.

However, they resolved their differences and Roma announced via social media this evening that Mkhitaryan will remain at the Stadio Olimpico.

His contract already had an option to extend for one more year after its expiry in June 2021.

He has now agreed to sign a new deal to June 2022.

Mkhitaryan had a very strong season with the Giallorossi, contributing 15 goals and 13 assists in 46 competitive games.
