Palmeiras confirm they have completed the signing of former Milan defender Gustavo Gomez.

The Brazilian club won the race to sign the Paraguayan despite reported interest from Cagliari.

It means the 25-year-old’s two-year stay with the Rossoneri comes to an end, with Gomez clearly surplus to requirements under Gennaro Gattuso.

He joined the Diavolo in 2016 and despite making 19 appearances in his first season, he did not feature at all in Serie A last term.

Indeed, his only competitive action in the entirety of the last campaign was during a 10-minute Europa League substitute appearance against Austria Vienna.

Gomez now returns to South America in the hope he can revive his career closer to home.
