Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala confirms the Rossoneri want to build a new stadium alone outside San Siro and claims he hasn’t spoken to Inter.

Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has returned to town to hold a meeting with Milano’s Mayor Sala on Thursday morning.

Sala has now confined that the Rossoneri want to build their new stadium alone in the area called La Maura, which is not too far from San Siro.

“Milan have confirmed their desire to go ahead with the project in La Maura,” Sala told reporters as quoted by Gazzetta.

“We had an open and direct discussion about San Siro, but clearly, they must tell me if they don’t want to go there.

“They have to present a project within two weeks, it’s a formal step to open the proceeding.”

Inter and Milan had initially agreed to build a new stadium in the area of San Siro, a new arena that should have been called ‘The Cathedral.’

The project had to go through a public debate involving residents of the area and should have led to the demolition of San Siro to respect environmental measures.

Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello revealed in February that the Nerazzurri hoped to build a new stadium alongside their city rivals in the area of San Siro, but this, apparently, is no longer in the Rossoneri’s plans.

“I haven’t spoken to Inter, at the moment, they haven’t shown alternatives,” concluded Sala.
