Sampdoria have officially signed Milan defender Andrea Conti on a permanent transfer, after the €24m buy made just 52 appearances for the club.

The 27-year-old right-back was in the final six months of his contract with the Rossoneri, which was due to expire in June.

He had been signed from Atalanta for €24m in 2017, but his career at San Siro was destroyed by a series of injury problems.

He was loaned to Parma in January 2021, failing to make much of an impact there either.

Since the summer of 2017, Conti managed only 52 competitive games for the Diavolo, in which he contributed five assists.

Conti made just one appearance for Milan this season, for 12 minutes in the 3-1 Serie A victory over Roma on January 6.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan will receive a minimal transfer fee only once Sampdoria avoid relegation to Serie B.

A product of the Atalanta youth academy, Conti also had loan spells at Perugia and Virtus Lanciano.

  1. Poor Kid! I feel for him. ACL injury is an ultimate nightmare for any footballer. Many talented youngsters have been destroyed by this serious injury. Like Conti for example. I hope Chiesa’s ACL injury is only level 1. I hope…

  2. I also feel for him. If we stuck with 3-at-the-back formation and he could stay injury free he would’ve been an absolute world beater but it wasn’t to be.

  3. Yep, a real shame. He looked destined to be a great player for a while but was so unfortunate with injury. I hope it goes well for him at Samp.

  4. Rosario no big loss as he is at a club where he can maybe find some luck and form. Now go and reinforce the defence and hopefully stop Inter.

  5. Whilst it’s a shame it didn’t work out for him, his injuries helped Calabria establish himself.

When we signed him it was yet another two fingers to one of our youth team players.

We did the same to Locatelli and Cutrone and pushed both out. The fact is we don’t need a right back because Calabria could be our right back for the next 10 years.

There may be better right backs out there but none of them have been at the club as long and continuity is often more important than quality.

  6. Flop…!?! Yet another piece of “journalism” from campanale. I mean seriously, how in the hell is this clown still getting gigs in this day and age!!!!

Anyway, as is the general feeling on this board, Conti was hardly a flop, just extremely unlucky with injury after injury ruining his “big move”. Barring that run at the back end of the 2019/2020 season where he seemed to have taken the edge over Calabria as our first choice right back, he just couldn’t show his full worth.

Wishing him all the best for his new adventure and most of all, hoping that he stays injury free!

  7. I remember how poor him and Calabria were for Milan . The transformation of Calabria should inspire him to work harder. He had more talent!
