Milan have officially extended defender Matteo Gabbia’s contract until June 2026.

The centre-back is 22 years old and was a product of the Rossoneri youth academy, making his way all the way through the various levels after arriving at the age of 13.

He made his senior debut for the Diavolo in August 2017.

With Simon Kjaer, Alessio Romagnoli and Fikayo Tomori injuries, Gabbia has been propelled into the first team with seven appearances this season between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

More contract extensions are expected over the next few days, with Theo Hernandez and Ismael Bennacer also close to signing the paperwork for their stay at San Siro.

  1. Great.

So glad we didn’t sign a CB and gave him room to breath. Giving him a contract extension is a huge show of confidence.

  2. I am very happy for Gabbia. Our coaches should should give more changes to home grown players. Hope Luca stanga will get more opportunities of playing.

  3. You guys ok? This mentality of mediocracy is creeping into fans. You guys do have a memory of the the not so old past when Milan‘s defence was feared in Europe. No need to drop names as we all know who they are and so now think about Gabbia…….
If we are competing for the scudetto, facing CL groups with Porto Liverpool Atletico we have to do better than Gabbia. MAX MAX Gabbia should be playing is against Venzeia, Salernitana etc.
Please don’t forget what Milan is supposed to be. And please don’t say the “rebuilding phase” stuff. Its old and incorrect at this point. We played Champions League, we should qualify for next year’s CL, we need to be better.

  4. @dollarumma you are in for a LONG, LONG and lonely journey.

We are not what we used to be so thinking about that nowadays is just going to disappoint.

Maybe Vuitton or someone else buys us and thing’s become different but under Elliott, nope.

  5. What’s wrong with extending with one of our own academy product? We need to be realist. Sure, we’re not the same team as the one on our glory height, but in order to do that, we need to take it step by step, and extending Gabbia’s contract is one of them.

You said we shouldn’t forget what Milan is supposed to be, then do you remember what we were for the past 10 years? This is the best looking Milan we’ve seen in a decade, after the departure of Silva and Ibra. We can’t simply go and blindly purchase players like the Li’s era. That’s what gotten us in financial ruins in the first place.

  6. Deserved. He’s the perfect squad player, as the third or fourth choice option, while doing a solid job in case of injuries. And you never know, he might climb the pecking order in future.
