Napoli have officially extended their contract with goalkeeper Alex Meret until June 2024, with an option for another year.

His current deal had been due to expire at the end of this season and he had been considered on the verge of a departure over the summer when the club tried to bring in Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper Keylor Navas.

Those discussions failed and Meret was given the gloves, taking that opportunity with a series of strong performances.

They have earned Meret a contract extension to June 2024, with an option for Napoli to add another season until June 2025.

The 25-year-old has two senior Italy caps and grew up in the Udinese youth academy, going on loan to SPAL and the Partenopei before making the transfer permanent in July 2019 for €26m.
