The transfer saga has been rumbling on all summer, with the Brazilian international repeatedly stating that he was looking to move back to Serie A.

However, it emerged earlier today that the transfer was unlikely to happen, with Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio declaring there was no space, and Melo’s agent revealing the possibility of a renewal.

The Istanbul giants have now confirmed the deal is dead in the water, as the former Juventus man has extended his contract.

“Galatasaray announce that Felipe Melo has renewed his contract with the club,” a statement on the club’s official website announced.

“His current contract has been extended until 2019.”
