Cristiano Ronaldo assures he is ‘very happy’ after Manchester United formally announced his transfer from Juventus, subject to personal terms and a medical.

“Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical.

“Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

“In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.

“Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester.”

The 36-year-old Portugal international left Turin this morning, emptying his locker and taking a private jet that landed in Lisbon this afternoon.

At the airport, before getting into a car, he spoke to local reporters from TVi24.

“I am very happy,” said Ronaldo.

“You’ll know my next club in about an hour.”

He didn’t have to wait that long, as Manchester United released their statement a few minutes later.

The reporters also followed the car, which is expected to take him for a medical in Lisbon, then he can sign the contract with Manchester United.

Due to travel restrictions, as he is called up for international duty by Portugal for next week, he will not go to Manchester until after those commitments are completed, otherwise he’d have to quarantine.

This is a return to Old Trafford for Ronaldo, who already played for Manchester United from 2003 to 2009.

He scored 118 goals and provided 69 assists in 292 competitive matches for the Red Devils.

Juventus are expected to receive a fee of €28m including various bonuses and add-ons, while Ronaldo will sign a two-year contract.

  1. best of his generation, but not good for us when he joined. i don`t envy some of the `fans` he takes with him, they are a burden for any fanbase to deal with and do him no fasvours. now it`s the team!

  2. Here are the Serie A awards for last season:

    Most Valuable Player
    Romelu Lukaku
    Internazionale

    Best Young Player
    Dušan Vlahović
    Fiorentina

    Best Goalkeeper
    Gianluigi Donnarumma
    Milan

    Best Defender
    Cristian Romero
    Atalanta

    Best Midfielder
    Nicolò Barella
    Internazionale

    Best Striker
    Cristiano Ronaldo
    Juventus

4 of these 6 players have left the league (could be 5 by the end of the month). No matter people’s feeling about Ronaldo, losing a player of his calibre only further weakens the league.

  3. @geedup. I don’t know what you are driving at but these players leaving the league hasn’t got nothing to do with the league. These guys are all about the money. Players have been leaving Serie A every year since 2007/8 when KAKA left, then Zlatan/Thiago 2011/12 and still players are still leaving every year till this year, and if the league is bad then no good player will be left. They said the good quality players are not playing in Serie anymore and still players are still leaving for 40,50-100M. You dont sell average players for 50M. If a 20-25 year old player can leave the premiership for China because of the salary on offer what does that tell you? A player will reject Juve, Inter or Milan and sign for LEED UTD, its about the money and nothing to do with the league. Italy just won the EURO and guess what? only 3 players out of th 23 plays outside Italy. So if Italy cannot afford to pay as much as the premier doesnt make the league inferior.

  4. yeah its about money but still its sad day for italian league. the last 3 years italian league and football try to climbing back to become the best league in the world, many star play (for example ronaldo and lukaku) playing for italian club, which they prefer spain or english teams before. italian league has been declined since 2010 then started to climb again since 3 years ago . now we go back like before. all italian club has financial problem because covid even juventus too. and the big player leaving the league.
idk why juventus fans hates him. his outscored lukaku last season when juventus has troublesome seasons yet he still score 35 goals all competitions comparing 30 goals lukaku. he is 36yo and still peforming. its hard to replace him with 20 goals + ST.

  5. his problem with juventus, its not his own fault. juventus lack direction the last 3 season. change 3 coachs and changing style constantly. they sack sarri only after 1 season replace with amateur coach pirlo. even thoug IMO sarri did what he did best with that squad who lacking players to play his sarrismo. he compromise his style lots to suit juventus player and play more pragmatis in order to win the league. and yet the club failed to backing him, instead bow to players who againts sarri (bonnucci, pjanic, etc).
yet despite coach changing everytime ronaldo still delivered and scored lots of goals. blaming not winning UCL all to ronaldo is ridiculous, even messi cant do that, look how barca falling down the last 3 years even messi cant help them. simply the level of hatred toward cristiano is beyond me. sure he make mistake in 3 years on juventus and any critism is welcome but critics different from hatred. juve fans should appreciate what he done more rather than treated him like the most hatred player on planet.

  6. @ FABIO PARATICI Very well said. Totally agree.

@Ayodele – Fabio Paratici has made a lot of valid counter arguments to your points, to which I would add,

    1) The Azzurri have a talented group but let’s be real, they wouldn’t have won the Euros without Mancini who turned them into a cohesive unlike most of the other favourites who were mostly relying on individual players.

    2) The Azzurri winning the Euros serves no benefit to players like Lukaku and Ronaldo. They want UCL glory and at present they believe their best shot at it would be with PL teams.

    3) ?You can argue that Serie A will still produce quality players but what’s the point in developing such quality and then losing them to the PL when they’re reaching or at their peak? Yeah the money from sale gives the clubs a financial boost but it’s only in the short term. The ongoing success of PL clubs in Europe has increased the league’s marketability with players and fans alike, same way it did for Serie A in the 90s. This not only gives the clubs more money but also the ability to buy and hold onto the best players.

  7. The problem with ronaldo, lukaku, and many other high profile players is The cost. Its true that they bring in flood of new supporters increasing the visibility of both the club and the league, but this comes at a huge cost followed by expensive salaries to maintain them. Therefore, it is good that they move soon before leaving club in financial turmoil. I would say Inter did a fantastic job with Lukaku, Conte, and Hakimi, while Juve failed a bit but not miserably. Also, You don’t need expensive coaches for less competitive league. Inzaghi is most suitable and perfect. Can anybody recall Bayern going out for the hyped players?? No, they remain low key and calm in the transfer market. I love Bayern for this reason. Their goal is football centric. Not on gaining short term visitors and supporters.
