The Malta national team have officially sacked their Italian coach Michele Marcolini and his staff after 16 games.
The former Chievo midfielder was under contract until December 31, 2024, but saw his tenure terminated early.
Along with the tactician, the Malta football federation also announced the immediate dismissal of his assistant manager Davide Mandelli.
They had been appointed to the role on January 1, 2023 and managed wins over Luxembourg, Gibraltar and Andorra.
Malta fire Marcolini
Curiously, he was dismissed just days after securing a rare success, 1-0 away to Andorra in the Nations League on September 10.
During his time in charge, Marcolini oversaw three victories, two draws and 11 defeats on the Malta bench.
Those included games against Italy, losing 2-0 and 4-0.
The coach is due to turn 49 next month and his previous jobs include Avellino, Albinoleffe, Chievo and Novara.
