Roma have registered the contract of Ainsley Maitland-Niles who joins the Giallorossi on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old is the first January signing for José Mourinho’s Roma.

He joins the Giallorossi on ‘dry’ loan deal until the end of the season, which means the Serie A giants do not have an option or an obligation to sign the player permanently at the end of the campaign.

Maitland-Niles: where will he play under Mourinho?

Roma will pay up to €1m for the player’s temporary move to the Stadio Olimpico: €500,000 guaranteed to Arsenal and €500,000 add-ons.

The Giallorossi and the Gunners had been negotiating over an option to buy for a long time but were unable to reach an agreement, so the player will move to the capital on loan until the end of the season.

Roma and Arsenal are expected to announce the player’s transfer with an official statement in the coming minutes.

Mourinho is also on the lookout for a centre midfielder and Porto’s Sergio Oliveira is the Special One’s No.1 target.

  1. Does this make any sense at all for Arsenal ? Partey and Elneny have already gone to the nations cup and now AMN..God help Us if Lokonga or Xhaka is injured or suspended. And we all know that Xhaka is a timed bomb waiting to happen.Well, let’s hope reinforcement is brought into our mid field as soon as possible…
