Official: Lotito out of FIGC race

Claudio Lotito has decided not to put himself forward for FIGC President, so there are three candidates in the January 29 election.

The Lazio patron said he had the backing of 11 Serie A clubs, but his presence had caused controversy, as he worked very closely with former Federation President Carlo Tavecchio.

It seems that negotiations to find a single candidate to represent Serie A failed, so Il Tempo report that Lotito has decided not to register himself as a candidate.

"I had the numbers and I was convinced to put myself forward, but there would've been too many consequences for my club," he told news agency Ansa.

This makes it a three-horse race, as the deadline for registering is tonight.

The options are Players Association President Damiano Tommasi, head of Lega Pro Gabriele Gravina and President of the Amateur League Cosimo Scibilia.
