Fabio Liverani is officially the new coach of Salernitana after Pippo Inzaghi was sacked, becoming the third different tactician to sit on the Stadio Arechi bench in this troubled season.

The statements were released this afternoon, confirming first that Inzaghi had been relieved of his duties, then that Liverani had signed a contract until June 30.

The 47-year-old former Lazio and Italy midfielder returns to football management after his brief 20-match spell on the Cagliari bench ended in December 2022.

His other clubs as coach were Genoa, Leyton Orient, Ternana, Lecce and Parma.

Curiously, Liverani has worked several times with director of sport Walter Sabatini now.

Inzaghi had only taken the Salernitana job on October 10 and was fired after managing just three wins, four draws and 11 defeats between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

He in turn had replaced Paulo Sousa, who managed one victory, three stalemates and five losses in all competition before he was dismissed on October 10, 2023.

Salernitana are rock bottom of the Serie A table and already five points adrift of the other teams in the race to avoid relegation.
