Leicester City have officially announced that Italian Enzo Maresca is the new coach with a contract to June 2026, leaving Manchester City. ‘Enzo brings a combination of personality, method and ambition.’
This is only his second real managerial role after a short-lived experience at Serie B side Parma from May to November 2021.
He lasted just 14 games in charge at the Stadio Tardini, overseeing four wins, five draws and five defeats.
“Enzo brings a combination of personality, method and ambition that meets extremely well with the footballing direction we are looking to take,” explained Leicester City Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha.
“His philosophy has been built over a rich and varied career, including an outstanding education as a coach, and fits with the vision we have for this next chapter in Leicester City’s history.
“Enzo’s profile has stood out to us for some time – a feeling that was only enhanced upon meeting him and listening to his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead. I have no doubt he will be warmly welcomed by our supporters and that together we can reset the Club’s course towards future success.”
Maresca worked as assistant manager to Vincenzo Montella and Joaquin Caparros at Sevilla in 2018, then sat on the bench with Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham United from the summer of 2018 to December 2019.
There was one season as coach of the Manchester City Elite Development youth squad before the brief Parma attempt at senior management.
This season, the 43-year-old returned to Manchester City to act as assistant manager to Pep Guardiola on their way to winning the Treble.
Maresca was well-travelled as a player too, with experiences in Italy, England, Spain and Greece.
“I’m very excited because of the Club and because we have a big season ahead of us,” Maresca told the official Leicester City website.
“At the beginning, the target is to play in the best way we can. From there, we can build, day by day, our idea and our philosophy, and the most important thing is to try to win games.
“First of all, we’re going to give 100 per cent, absolutely, because the Club deserves this. It’s our job, our duty to do that. Then, as I said, day by day, step by step, absolutely we’re going to improve.”
