Florian Thauvin has officially returned to Marseille, ending speculation in Lazio’s interest.
It had been widely reported at the end of last week that the Frenchman was on the verge of a Biancocelesti medical ahead of joining from Newcastle.
However, the Rome side have been pipped to Thauvin’s signature by their Ligue 1 counterparts, with the winger moving on an initial one-year loan deal.
Lazio had viewed the 23-year-old as an ideal replacement for Antonio Candreva, recently sold to Inter, but will now have to look elsewhere.
