Lazio confirm Maurizio Sarri has resigned and his assistant Giovanni Martusciello will remain in charge as his successor.

Sarri resigned as Lazio coach on Tuesday after suffering three consecutive defeats. He was no longer on good terms with President Claudio Lotito and part of the dressing room, so he decided to leave despite having a year left in his contract.

Lazio confirmed Sarri’s resignation on Wednesday morning, announcing that his assistant Martusciello would remain as an interim coach.

The Bianconcelesti have not clarified whether the ex-Empoli tactician will remain in charge until the end of the season.

Several coaches, from Igor Tudor to Raffaele Palladino and ex-Lazio striker Miroslav Klose, have been linked with the job.

Klose and Tudor are currently without a club, while Palladino is under contract with Serie A side Monza.

Lazio thanked Sarri for the ‘goals he achieved and for the work done’ and wished him the best on and off the pitch.

The ex-Napoli, Juventus, and Chelsea boss was appointed in 2021 and won 65 of 137 games at the Stadio Olimpico.

  1. It’s clear that the players left him down, I’m feeling sorry for the way he went but much respect to the man Sarri is. A prideful human being who didn’t stay to milk his contract.

Respect and thanks for all you did, with the proper support from above, you could’ve done more, I know it.

The best of luck for the future!

  2. Andre …he constantly criticized them and said his players were basically not good enough , what kind of coach doesn’t change tactics to whoever you are up against!!! Overrated overpaid and a man that when confronted about his idiotic failing tactics laughed and said “it was good enough for Barca” !!!!
    Good riddance
