Lazio have officially announced the signing of Senegal international Boulaye Dia on a what is likely to be a permanent deal from recently-relegated Salernitana.
Official: Lazio sign Dia from Salernitana
The 27-year-old striker joins in a deal reported to be worth €12m, while Lazio are also set to send teenage defender Fabio Ruggeri in the other direction to sweeten the deal.
Dia has technically joined on a two-year loan deal with an obligation to buy if certain sporting conditions are met.
The club have confirmed that he has agreed to a four-year-contract at the Stadio Olimpico, which means he will be tied to the Biancocelesti until the summer of 2028.
He has signed in time for Lazio’s Serie A season opener at home against Venezia, which kicks off at 19.45 on Sunday evening.
Dia will wear the no.19 shirt during his first season under Marco Baroni.
“SS Lazio announces that it has acquired the rights of footballer Bboulaye Dia from US Salernitana on a two-year temporary basis, with an obligation ro redeem permanently upon the occurrence of certain particular sporting conditions,” Lazio wrote in a typically brief statement on the club website.
“The Senegalese striker, who will wear the number 19 shirt, has signed a four-year contract.”
Dia had a very stop-start season with Salernitana last term, largely due to personal reasons. He eventually mustered up four goals from 17 appearances, but was not able to help Salernitana avoid relegation to Serie B.
It was a completely different story the year before, as Dia put in a herculean shift to keep Salernitana up, scoring just shy of a goal in every other game. His 2022-23 tally eventually stod at 16 goals from 33 outings with a team that finished 15th in Serie A.
