Sardar Azmoun was linked with Juventus, Milan and Roma in recent weeks, but the Zenit and Iran striker has now signed for Bayer Leverkusen.

The 27-year-old Iran international was on the market because his Zenit St Petersburg contract was due to expire on June 30.

Juve targeted Azmoun as a potential replacement should Alvaro Morata move on to Barcelona in January.

Milan also looked at the tall centre-forward, with Lille in France another option, while he had been a target for Jose Mourinho’s Roma in the summer.

However, Azmoun has now officially signed for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

It was announced this evening that he has put pen to paper on a contract with the German side until June 2027.

Azmoun has 39 goals in 60 senior caps for Iran and joined Zenit from Rubin Kazan in February 2019.

So far this season, he scored 10 goals with four assists in 21 competitive appearances for Zenit St Petersburg.
