Italy’s FIGC has officially submitted a bid to host Euro 2032 which would be staged across Milan, Turin, Verona, Genoa, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples, Bari and Cagliari.

The Italian Football Federation has made the final formal step to host the European Championships in nine years and a final decision from UEFA will be made when the Executive Committee takes place on October 10, 2023.

FIGC has also unveiled the potential venues for the continental tournament to be staged across Milan, Turin, Verona, Genoa, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples, Bari and Cagliari if the bid is accepted.

“The bid is inspired to a new Renaissance,” said FIGC President Gabriele Gravina.

“It was realised in close connection with the territories. On the one hand, enhancing the historical and artistic beauty while respecting its impact and sustainability.

“The dossier is the result of intense work, in which football has once again become an instrument of unity and cross-party aggregation, concretised in the adoption of various measures, government, parliamentary and municipal, that ennoble our candidacy.

“We have imagined Italy and European football in 10 years, knowing that the positive legacy of such an event multiplies extraordinary opportunities for the entire nation. I thank all the stakeholders who have embraced the project with great enthusiasm and collaborative spirit.”

  1. Wow, what a way to really tell Sicilians that we’re considered second-rate citizens!

As usual, pumping the north of Italy with investment, to leaving the south impoverished. 10 cities, 7 north of Rome!

Palermo have hosted Italy internationals, historically pipelined loads of champions into the national team, and are a club that’s reborn and doing well in Serie B. For the vibrant capital of Sicily to be sidelined from this is a kick in the teeth. Is it because they actually are owned by a group that could build a new stadium without useless, red-taped council funding? Who knows.
