UEFA has officially given Nicolò Barella a two-match ban, so the Inter midfielder will miss both games against Liverpool in the Champions League.

As expected, the governing body of European football has punished the Italy international with a two-match after receiving a straight red card in the final Champions League group stage game against Real Madrid in December.

Reports in Italy had claimed Barella would have received a two-match ban and UEFA has not confirmed the midfielder’s suspension.

La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms Inter won’t appeal the decision.

Inter have qualified for the Champions League round of 16 for the first time in ten years.

They had been drawn with Ajax but were then paired against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds in the infamous redraw in December.

The Serie A champions will host Liverpool at San Siro on February 16 and will visit Anfield Road on March 8.

Joaquin Correa will also miss the first game in Milan due to a flexor injury.

  1. I don’t think this will make any difference, Barella or no Barella, Liverpool is from another world. We have 0% chances. 🙄😋 But, hey, I’m simply pesimistic for everything. 😋

  2. This would honestly be the perfect opportunity to get Sensi back on his feet. He’s better than Vidal, Gagliardini and Vecino put together. Inter will regret letting Sensi go. I hope they reconsider and give him more playing time.

  3. Well Rosario, if Barella put on the exhibition of diving that Fernando Torres did in the last CL game played between the two sides, Barella would be heading for the academy awards in feb not anfield. I expected the max ban, UEFA seems to hate Italian sides and the media etc looooove Liverpool. It was always going to be a big ask, but I do expect Inter to keep it tight enough. The last CL tie between these sides was a refereeing fisaco – both legs.

  4. This is the 3rd article about Barella missing both games, and your 2nd Lorenzo. Perhaps you and Apollo should coordinate before posting?

  5. Barella is awesome player and Sensi would have been an ideal replacement for Nicolo`. I also agree Inter will regret letting Sensi go to Sampdoria. On the other hand, this will give Sensi the chance to get his fitness back and possibly be a big part of the World Cup Play Offs.
