The Croatian is also understood to have committed to a four-year contract if his stay at San Siro is made permanent.

The 26-year-old previously played for Genoa and Sassuolo in Serie A, before moving to Atleti in the summer of 2016.

Injuries and the presence of Juanfran limited him to 54 appearances in two seasons with Los Colchoneros, but he nonetheless wrapped up his spell in Spain with a Europa League title.

He also played a key role in Croatia’s run to the World Cup Final, where they were defeated by France, earlier in the summer.

Vrsaljko becomes Inter’s seventh signing of the close season and could be followed by Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal.
