Inter have officially confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Emil Audero from Serie B side Sampdoria on an initial loan deal with the right to make the move permanent at a later date.

The 26-year-old stopper arrived for his medical with Inter on Thursday afternoon, before being taken to the clubb’s headquarters to make the move official.

Following the arrival of Yann Sommer from Borussia Moenchengladbach, Inter have now brought in two new goalkeepers this summer, having bid farewell to both Andre Onana and Samir Handanovic earlier in the window.

Audero joins Inter off the back of a testing season with Sampdoria, who were relegated from the top flight at the end of 2022-23 after a difficult year on and off the pitch.

He began his professional career with Juventus, joining the club’s academy as an 11-year-old in 2008. He would make one singular appearance for the Bianconeri first team, in the final Serie A game of the 2016-17 season, aged 20.

From there, Audero joined Venezia on loan for the 2017-18 campaign, making a maximum 38 appearances in the league. The following year, he joined Sampdoria on an initial loan, with the club exercising their option to buy for a reported €20m in February 2019.

A statement from Inter’s club website read: “Calmness, mental strength and self-awareness: these are the fundamental qualities for a goalkeeper according to Audero. Qualities that are represented in Emil’s style of play.

“He is ready to face this new adventure wearing the Inter shirt.”
