Inter insist ‘European football’s future can only be secured by working together through the ECA’ and ‘in partnership with UEFA and FIFA’, suggesting they won’t participate in the Super League.

“FC Internazionale Milano reiterates its position that European football’s future well-being can only be secured by clubs working together through the ECA, in partnership and collaboration with UEFA and FIFA,” the Nerazzurri said in a statement.

“As a Club, we remain committed to the values that underpin the European Sports Model and to working through the ECA alongside our fellow clubs to uphold those values.”

The Nerazzurri were the second Serie A club to release an official statement on Thursday following an ECJ ruling on FIFA and UEFA’s dominant position. The European Court of Justice said the football institutions can’t punish European clubs and players for participating in tournaments they haven’t organised.

The first Italian club to take a position against the Super League on Thursday were Roma. The Giallorossi had released an even harsher statement saying that a breakaway tournament “would present an unacceptable attack on the importance of the national leagues and the foundations of European football.”

It has been perceived as a major boost for creating the Super League even if most clubs have now quit the project, leaving Real Madrid and Barcelona as the only two sides still involved in the breakaway tournament.

Inter were among the 12 founders of the Super League in April 2021 but quickly withdrew following Premier League clubs.

Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello is a member of ECA’s Executive Board.
