Official: injury blow for Napoli, Osimhen ruled out of Africa Cup of Nations

Napoli reveal their star striker Victor Osimhen will remain out of action for three months after undergoing a cheekbone operation.

The Nigerian striker was diagnosed with multiple facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar on Sunday. He was forced to leave the pitch in the second half.

Osimhen underwent cheekbone operation this morning and he will remain out of action for at least 90 days.

The player’s recovery time has been revealed by Napoli with an official statement published on their website.

Osimhen has successful surgery, Spalletti reveals return date

This comes as a huge blow for Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti who hoped Osimhen would remain out of action for just three or four games.

The Tuscan tactician said Osimhen could return to action on December 19 in Napoli’s away Serie A clash against Milan.

Clearly, this won’t be the case anymore and Osimhen will also miss the Africa Cup of Nations that begins on January 9, 2022.

Napoli travel to Russia without Osimhen, Anguissa and Lorenzo Insigne who has suffered knee issues and didn’t train with the rest of the group this morning.
