Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Rasmus Hojlund on a permanent transfer from Atalanta in what is a record sale for the Bergamo club.

Hojlund has put pen to paper on a five-year contract running until the summer of 2028 with the option of an additional year.

United are reported to have paid €75m plus up to €10m in bonuses to secure the 20-year-old striker’s services.

Hojlund has already been in England for the last few days, completing his medical before the official announcement arrived on Saturday afternoon.

While with Atalanta, the Denmark international netted 27 goals from 87 appearances across all competitions, including nine from 32 in the 2022-23 Serie A season.

La Dea had paid €17m to bring him to Bergamo from Sturm Graz last summer. The Austrian side had paid €1.8m to sign him from Copenhagen six months prior.

In a statement release on United’s club website, Hojlund said: “It is no secret that I have been a fan of this great club since I was a small boy, and I dreamed of walking out at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player.

“I am incredibly excited by this opportunity to turn that dream into a reality, and I am determined to repay the faith that the club has shown in me. It is still early in my career, but I know that I am ready to make this step up and play with this group of world-class players.

“Once I had spoken to the manager, I knew that this environment would be perfect for my development; I am relishing the opportunity to work with one of the best coaches in the world. Under his guidance and support I know that I am capable of achieving great things together with my new teammates at this special club.”
