Official: Hellas Verona appoint Bocchetti as new head coach

Hellas Verona have officially announced that former defender Salvatore Bocchetti has become the club’s new head coach.

The 35-year-old Italian finished his playing career with the Gialloblu last year after spending his final season in Veneto. After hanging up his boots, Bocchetti became Hellas Verona’s Under-18 coach, spending a few months in the role before becoming assistant coach to Igor Tudor. After Tudor’s departure, Bocchetti became the Primavera coach.

Hellas Verona dismissed Gabriele Cioffi earlier this week following the team’s disappointing start to the season. Bocchetti has now been promoted to replace him, giving him a chance on the main stage.

The Gialloblu currently sit 18th in the Serie A table, giving Bocchetti a tough challenge in his first senior team head coaching role. The Veneto side’s next games are against Milan on October 16 and Sassuolo on October 24.

Cioffi joined Hellas Verona in the summer and oversaw 10 games before his dismissal, averaging 0.50 points per match.
