Genoa have confirmed that Albert Gudmundsson has signed a new contract extension, which will tie him to the club until the summer of 2027.

The Icelandic international has been in fine form since the team’s return to Serie A and currently leads Genoa’s 2023-24 goalscoring charts with seven in 14 matches across all competitions, including five from 12 in the league.

The 26-year-old was brought to the club for a fee of around €1.5m from AZ Alkmaar in January of 2022, but was relegated to Serie B by the end of that season. He and the team were able to bounce immediately back, gaining promotion by the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

With his 22 goals in 64 matches since joining Genoa just shy of two years ago, Gudmundsson is averaging just over one goal every three matches for the Rossoblu.

Genoa celebrated Gudmundsson’s renewal by sharing a quick compilation of his 2023-24 strikes on social media.
