Fiorentina have announced Gennaro Gattuso will not be the coach at the Artemio Franchi for next season.

Last night, reports emerged regarding a spat between the Calabrian coach and the hierarchy at Fiorentina, and the Viola have now announced the split.

The former Napoli and Milan coach was announced new Viola coach on May 25 but has walked away from the project in Florence after less than a month.

“ACF Fiorentina and coach Rino Gattuso, by mutual agreement, decided not to follow up on the preventive agreements and therefore not to start the next football season together,” Fiorentina wrote in a statement.

“The club is now working to identify a technical choice that will guide the Viola towards the results that Fiorentina and the city of Florence deserve.”

The tension between Gattuso, President Rocco Commisso and Club Manager Giancarlo Antognoni started with the transfer market assessments made by the club regarding the proposed players of agent Jorge Mendes, who is also the representative of Gattuso.

The reports in Italy suggested Fiorentina wanted to make smaller investments than the profiles the new coach asked for and the parties failed to find a solution going forward.

Reports: ‘Gattuso’s work in Florence is already over’

Gattuso left Napoli after finishing fifth in Serie A 2020-21 and the 43-year-old helped the Partenopei win the Coppa Italia in 2019-20, when he replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the helm in December.
