Milan have officially signed Youssouf Fofana after weeks of negotiations with AS Monaco. ‘The squad is now complete,’ declared Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The deal was finally achieved over the last couple of days when Monaco bowed to pressure from the player, accepting the fee of €23m plus €2m in add-ons.

He flew in and underwent a medical yesterday, putting pen to paper this afternoon on the contract to June 2028.

The 25-year-old had also been targeted by Manchester United and West Ham United, but had his heart set on Milan and got his wish today.

Ibrahimovic welcomes Fofana to Milan

“We apologise for the delay,” said Ibrahimovic at the press conference, referring in part to this planned event, but also to fans who waited weeks for Fofana to arrive.

“With Fofana, we were looking for a midfielder who brings balance to the team. He is a complete player and can break the lines. This was one of the longest negotiations we’ve had to deal with, but he is finally here.”

The signing joins Alvaro Morata, Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal, with the club icon warning fans not to expect more additions.

“The squad is now complete.”

Fofana is expected to earn circa €3m per season in wages at San Siro over the next four years.

He was born in Paris and moved to Strasbourg, where he won the Coupe de la Ligue, before the January 2020 transfer to AS Monaco.

He made 175 competitive games for the club, scoring seven goals and providing 15 assists.

The midfielder will wear the Number 29 jersey at Milan.
