Fiorentina confirm their director Joe Barone has been hospitalised at the intensive care unit at the San Raffaele Hospital, where he is receiving ‘the most advanced treatment in cardiac function and support.’

Fiorentina released a medical update on Barone on Sunday night.

The club’s general director reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday, hours before a Serie A match between Fiorentina and Atalanta, which was eventually postponed.

“ACF Fiorentina can confirm that Joe Barone is currently hospitalised at the cardiac intensive care unit at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan directed by Prof Alberto Zangrillo,” La Viola said in a statement.

“His condition remains critical but stable. Barone is currently receiving the most advanced treatment in cardiac function and support. Another update will be published tomorrow.”

Zangrillo, the director of the intensive care unit at the San Raffaele Hospital, had been Silvio Berlusconi’s personal doctor for over 20 years and is currently serving as Genoa‘s President, although 777 Partners own the club.

Gianluca Di Marzio and Sara Meini, reporting from the San Raffaele Hospital, said Barone had heart surgery.

Fiorentina players and coach Vincenzo Italiano visited the club director at the hospital today and are now heading back to Florence.

Barone’s wife, who lives in the capital of Tuscany, arrived in Milan in the evening while President Rocco Commisso and Barone’s children are expected to fly to Italy from the USA.
