Matija Nastasic has completed his transfer to Fiorentina from Schalke 04, a return to the club he left in 2012.
It was announced via a cheeky tweet showing the full circle of his journey from Belgrade to Florence, Manchester, Gelsenkirchen and back to Florence again.
The 28-year-old centre-back is the replacement for German Pezzella, who moved to Real Betis Balompie this week.
He was available for a minimal fee after Schalke’s relegation, and as his contract with the Germans only ran to June 2022.
The Serbia international already wore the Viola jersey in 2011-12, with two goals in 29 competitive appearances for the club, before making the €15.2m move to Manchester City.
He went on to Schalke and now returns to the Stadio Artemio Franchi, where he’ll form a defensive partnership with fellow Serbian Nikola Milenkovic, who just extended his contract to June 2023.
Nastasic has 28 senior caps under his belt for Serbia and can also play as a left-back when needed.
