Fiorentina announced that Vincenzo Italiano is their new coach, breaking the news with a cheeky social media song.

The Viola released a clip of a purple record player and the audio of Toto Cutugno singing his famous ditty ‘Un Italiano Vero’ (A Real Italian).

Italiano has signed a two-year contract, with an option to extend for a third season.

It has been a chaotic summer for Fiorentina, who hired Gennaro Gattuso only to part company acrimoniously 23 days later following a row over transfer strategy and the role of his agent Jorge Mendes.

They then targeted Italiano, who had only just signed a new contract with Spezia, and that too seemed on the verge of collapse until a sudden breakthrough.

Now Italiano has signed for Fiorentina after terminating his deal with Spezia at a cost of €1m, while the club is also expected to hand over a youth team player in exchange for releasing his staff from their contracts.

Italiano had his debut Serie A season in 2020-21, having taken Spezia to their first ever top flight campaign.
