Empoli have officially parted company with coach Alessio Dionisi after promotion to Serie A, as he is reportedly heading to Sassuolo.

“Empoli Football Club announce that an agreement has been reached to terminate the contract with coach Alessio Dionisi and the members of his staff,” read a statement.

“We thank the coach and his staff for their work and wish them the best for their future professional endeavours.”

The tactician had only been at the club for one season, but took them to win the Serie B title and secure qualification for the top flight.

This earned 41-year-old Dionisi a great deal of attention and he has been approached by several clubs, including Sampdoria and Hellas Verona.

Sassuolo struck a deal with Dionisi last week and he is expected to replace Roberto De Zerbi, who left the Neroverdi for a new experience at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Dionisi’s previous clubs were Olginatese, Borgosesia, Fiorenzuola, Imolese and Venezia, so this will be his debut Serie A campaign.

In turn, Empoli are likely to bring back Aurelio Andreazzoli, who had already been at the Stadio Castellani in 2017-18 and again in 2019.

His most recent role was at Genoa, lasting just nine games in 2019.
