Tony Di Piazza has officially vacated his role as Vice-President of Palermo, owning to disagreements with the club’s board.

Di Piazza formed part of the consortium that brought Palermo back from the ashes last summer, allowing the new team to wipe the slate clean in Serie D.

They won promotion to Serie C following the decision to end non-league championships early, with the Rosanero seven points clear at top of their division.

However, the Italo-American businessman announced in a Facebook post last night that he would be stepping down as Vice-President.

“Unfortunately, I found that a series of behaviours prevented me from exercising my role fully and effectively to help make Palermo the club an international brand, one certainly not inferior to the biggest Italian teams,” it read.

“In recent months I’ve bottled up my frustrations, so as not to damage the team, while acknowleding that on many issues relating to the present and, above all, the future (which I imagine should be increasingly ambitious), I was prevented from contributing by never being consulted in advance and, on some occasions, even learning from the press of decisions that should’ve been strictly a matter for the Board of Directors, of which I was Vice-President.”

He also confirmed he would be looking to sell his shares in the Siclian side.
