Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi has officially been announced as the new manager of Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille after leaving Brighton and Hove Albion.

The tactician had already agreed a deal in principle with Marseille, but has now signed the three-year contract to commit his future to the French club.

De Zerbi new experience at Marseille

The 45-year-old really shot to fame at Sassuolo, moving on to an experience at Shakhtar Donetsk in 2021 that was interrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

De Zerbi took over at Brighton in September 2022 and took them to their first ever European qualification, reaching the Europa League quarter-finals until a 4-1 aggregate exit to Daniele De Rossi’s Roma.

He decided not to continue with the Seagulls this summer and is now officially the new coach of Olympique Marseille.

Lawyers were at work to buy him out of his contract and it remains to be seen how much that cost Marseille.

The club has a connection with Italy, having recently hired and fired Gennaro Gattuso.
