“Torino Football Club announce that Matteo Darmian has been sold on a permanent basis to Manchester United,” read a statement.
“President Urbano Cairo wishes to thank Darmian for his professionalism and hard work shown over the years.
“From President Cairo to the youngest of the youth academy players, all of Torino FC wish Matteo the best for this new extraordinary experience.”
A 25-year-old Italy international with 13 senior Azzurri caps to his name, Darmian grew up in the Milan youth academy.
He was sold to Palermo in 2010 for €800,000 and then joined Torino on a permanent basis in 2012 for €1.8m.
His price-tag sky-rocketed following strong performances for club and country, earning interest from Inter, Napoli, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Darmian has opted for Manchester United and described the move as “a dream come true.”
It has been a busy day at Old Trafford, as they also agreed terms with Bayern Munich for German international midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
